Applicability of Rough-Set Theory in Determining the Destruction caused by an Earthquake
There are various scenarios where we face the problem of inconsistency. The solution to these is not an exact one and cannot be determined directly. The solution to these problems is hidden within the data itself. There are different theories put forward by different researchers which tackle the problem of inconsistency. These include1) fuzzy logic theory (as proposed by LoftiZadeh which gives the solution between value range 0 and 1) 2) rough-set theory (as proposed by Pawlak which defines the lower, upper approximation and boundary set for the given set of crisp values).This paper proposes a new algorithm which will be using rough set theory as a primary tool to combat the problem of indiscernibility (or inconsistency).This paper also talks about the real world problem like earthquake alarm technique which uses previous statistics and data about earthquake to measure the estimated damage that is caused by it. Moreover, it establishes a relation between real-world problems that we are facing and the available mathematical concepts that can be applied to find a solution to it.
